AI-PPE (Artificial Intelligence-Philosophy-Politics-Economics) Research Center


The AI-PPE (Artificial Intelligence-Philosophy-Politics-Economics) Research Center will collaborate with the School of Economics and Management, the School of Marxism, the School of Political Science and International Relations, and the Department of Philosophy at East China Normal University. The center will focus on global issues in the philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE) area, particularly in the age of AI. The primary research concentrations include:


1. Data Privacy and Security: Investigating the ways to protect the users’ data privacy, preventing the breaches and misuse of data, and establishing secure and trustworthy data management and sharing mechanisms.

2. Algorithm Fairness and Transparency: Exploring methods to ensure fairness and transparency in AI algorithms, reducing bias and discrimination, and improving the interpretability and understandability of algorithmic decisions.

3. Trustworthy AI: Developing theories, benchmarks, databases, and open platforms for trustworthy AI, which can be used for financial institutions as core components of internal control and compliance products, and also offer theoretical and research support to governmental agencies.

4. Social Equity and Inclusion: Examining the impact of AI technology on social equity and inclusion, addressing the digital divide and social inequalities, and promoting the fair development of AI.

5. Human-Machine Collaboration and Relationships: Focusing on the collaboration and relationship between humans and AI systems, including human-machine interface design, interaction methods, and the impact of AI on human work and life.

6. International Cooperation and Safe Governance: Investigating international cooperation and global governance mechanisms of AI and formulating international AI safety and regulation frameworks to prevent the militarization and uncontrolled development of AI technology.

7. Ethical Principles and Legislative Norms: Building AI ethical principles and legislative norms, establishing moral guidelines and legal frameworks for AI that align with human values, and ensuring the lawful and ethical use of AI technology.


The center will cover key issues in AI ethics and governance and provide an essential theoretical and practical foundation for the sustainable development and social advancement of AI technology.
