About SAIFS

East China Normal University (“ECNU”), is a renowned comprehensive research university in China, ranking among the nation's "985" and "211" projects. Founded on October 16, 1951, ECNU was established on the original site of the Great China University (founded in 1924) and Kwang Hua University (founded in 1925).

The rapid development of technology, particularly the advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), has led to the emergence of AI-Finance (AI-Fin), driven by the financial industry's continuous demand for more efficient, safer, and smarter solutions. AI-Finance is a highly complex and diversified field that requires multidisciplinary cooperation and research. Differing from FinTech and TechFin, the integration of AI with finance is poised to revolutionize the micro-structure of the financial industry and the global political-economic landscape at an unprecedented pace.

The Shanghai AI-Finance School (SAIFS), established in 2023 at ECNU, is the world's first educational and research institution created at the intersection of AI and finance. SAIFS emphasizes on a holistic education that goes beyond mere knowledge, aiming to cultivate a new generation of leaders in AI-Fin who are well-versed in financial knowledge, AI technology, and practical experience. SAIFS remains at the forefront of academic research, exploring new applications of AI in finance. Additionally, SAIFS is committed to building a broad cooperation network with global academic institutions, financial organizations, technology companies, and government departments to promote interdisciplinary research and application of AI-Fin, enhancing the efficiency and quality of financial services and creating value for society.

Beyond AI-Fin, SAIFS is also establishing a research center for AIFinance and an AI-Philosophy-Politics-Economics (AI-PPE) research center. The former will develop advanced models to identify, quantify, predict, and mitigate systemic risks associated with the deployment of AI technologies to the society, aiming to provide AI compliance theories and research results to government agencies and major financial institutions. The AI-PPE center is dedicated to advancing research on global philosophical, political, and economic issues in the AI era and developing a new AI4Social Science teaching system to reinvigorate the dynamism of philosophy, politics, and economics in serving modern society.
